SELF-INTEREST
Selfish-interest (greed)
Actions which place the interest(s) of the person doing the act first, and where the results on the person or persons on the receiving end of the action are not considered at all except as they would enhance the person doing the act. One could argue that this is either act- or rational-egoism.
Self-centered-interest (enlightened self-interest)
Actions which place the interest(s) of the person doing the act first, and where the results on the person or persons on the receiving end of the action are given secondary consideration. Self-centered actions or actions based on self-centered-interests may or may not be thought of as egoistic or moral. The weight goes to motive. “Do unto others…” WHY?
Unselfish-interest
Actions by a person who place the interest of those on the receiving end of the behavior first and his or her own self-interest second. Some have said that this is the highest form of morality. Others argue—the religious and the United States Marine code—that selfless interest or behavior is the highest form of morality. The choice is somewhat relative, depending on context.
Selfless-interest
Actions or behaviors which place others first where the interests of the “self” or person doing the acting are not considered at all—“Honor, Courage, Commitment.” I’m not sure this is a real rational possibility. It is a possible action but may come from training and bare the stains of stimulus/response.
